Full-Time Outreach Advocate position available
Domestic Abuse/Sexual Assault Services (DASAS) is a small team of passionate individuals who believe a future without violence is possible.
Service area includes: Red Willow, Chase, Dundy, Frontier, Furnas, Hayes and Hitchcock counties.
Hours: Monday – Thursday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm; Friday 8:30 am – 4 pm
On-call shifts: Must take part of rotating weekly crisis line coverage after hours approximately every third week. Ability to work irregular hours including periodic evenings, nights, weekends, some holidays.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Knowledge of and interest in the issues related to domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence, stalking and human trafficking
- Commitment to the vision, mission and goals of DASAS
- Ability to work well with persons from a variety of racial, cultural and economic backgrounds with various religious beliefs, lifestyles, sexual orientations, age variance and differing abilities
- Ability to remain calm, listen and demonstrate sensitivity, compassion and empathy
- Ability to handle stressful/crisis situations
- Ability to communicate effectively (written and orally) with diverse populations
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to use sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively
- Ability to travel within service area and periodic travel outside of the service area as needed, including periodic overnight travel
- Adhere to all guidelines and policies of DASAS
Client Duties:
- Respond to clients in a professional and supportive way
- Provide direct services to clients including crisis support/intervention, economic advocacy, medical advocacy, housing advocacy, safety planning, shelter services
- Assess clients’ needs for additional services and make appropriate referrals
- Legal advocacy including assisting clients to understand and participate in the criminal justice system, assisting with protection orders and victim impact statements, accompanying clients to court and throughout the criminal justice process.
- Advocate on behalf of clients with other community agencies and professionals
- Represent DASAS, the community and our clients in a professional manner (in dress, behavior and workspace)
- Ensure equal access to all services provided by program
- Complete all client paperwork
- Identify gaps in service within systems (internal and external)
- Actively participate in staff meetings and other agency-wide training, conferences & personal development opportunities
Public Awareness/Outreach Duties:
- Develop, revise, maintain and distribute awareness & prevention materials
- Create and maintain positive relationships with county officials, law enforcement, probation, health care professionals, other community service organizations, etc., within our service area
- Maintain various databases including newsletters, mailing lists, etc.
- Assist with awareness and outreach activities including the promotion of awareness month activities
- Provide presentations that describe services available, how to obtain services and to help identify survivors and refer them to needed services
- Attend community events and activities to promote DASAS services and raise public awareness
- Assist with upkeep and promotion of agency social media sites
- Assist with quarterly newsletter
- In coordination with Director, update curriculum/materials to be used with volunteer trainings and assist in recruiting and training volunteers
- Propose new ideas and methods for enhancing current programs and new program development.
- Assist Director and staff with special events and special projects
Minimum Qualifications:
- A degree in the field of human services or related field or equivalent work and/or volunteer experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Publisher) and Social Media programs.
- Experience in public speaking
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a reliable, insured vehicle
- Successful completion of criminal background check, CPS/APS background check, Sex Offender Registry and Motor Vehicle Report check.
- Live within a 20-mile radius of McCook
- Fluency in Spanish a plus.
